Motorist dies after car rolls on N3

2012-02-20 00:00

A 35-YEAR-OLD man died after he rolled his car on the N3 northbound just after the Camperdown off-ramp yesterday.

Vanessa Jackson of ER24 said the vehicle rolled up an embankment and then back down to land on its roof next to the road. The man was ejected and found lying on the grass.

She said the man had sustained critical injuries.

An emergency services team placed him on external breathing equipment and attempted to stabilise him while they took him by ambulance to Hillcrest Hospital. His condition deteriorated and en route to hospital they had to start CPR. A while later the man succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead shortly after they arrived at hospital.

In another accident, a provincial Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) traffic officer was critically injured when he lost control of his official vehicle and hit a tree on the old main road between Ashburton and the Lion Park yesterday afternoon.

RTI spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said the officer, whose name is being witheld until his relatives have been notified, was on standby at the time of the crash. He was taken to hospital.

On the Boston-Bulwer road yesterday afternoon the driver of a luxury van was killed when he lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a pole.

His two passengers sustained injuries, Mngomezulu said.
