Mount Ayliff animal cruelty case postponed

2009-07-09 00:00

THE case of Mount Ayliff teacher Andile Jezile (38), who has been charged with seven counts of cruelty to animals, was postponed again yesterday.

Jezile was arrested in January following allegations that he punished his dog by dragging it on a rope behind his car, after which he threw it into the bushes.

The dog was put down by a local vet because its injuries were so severe. Jezile allegedly did this to punish the dog after it allegedly bit his son. He was released on R1 500 bail.

Magistrate Monwabifi Mda told the court that he was aware that there was pressure to finalise the case as soon as possible due to the publicity it has attracted, but added that it appeared that the state and lawyers involved needed to agree on how to go on with the case.

“So they need to be given a chance,” said Mda. He postponed the case to July 10.
