Moz conflict: Travellers warned

2013-10-23 00:00

RENEWED fighting between Mozambique’s Renamo and government soldiers had Control Risk Group advising travellers not to drive to Beira in the Sofala province.

There are no signs that visitors are targeted, but they could be caught in crossfire.

The leader of opposition movement Renamo, Afonso Dhlakama, had on Monday said the peace agreement with the government had ended with the recent attacks and officially declared war against President Armando Guebuza’s government.

Informed sources said the current posturing stemmed from Renamo’s unhappiness with their share of Mozambique’s earnings from new gas and oil finds.
