Msibi’s alleged killer in court

A 45-YEAR-OLD man from Ulundi will be appearing in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on April 10 in connection with the murder of prominent African National Congress leader, Makhosonke Msibi, who was shot and killed in Ulundi in August last year.

Learnard Mdu Khanyile is expected to make a bail application when he appears on Thursday.

Bongani Shisa Tembe, the media liaison officer for the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal, welcomed the news saying it was “a big step closer to getting to the truth”.

“Comrade Msibi was one of the hard working leaders of our organisation and his killing led many of us into believing that it was a carefully-crafted plan of destabilising the ANC in Ulundi where he had brought scores of people into our glorious movement,” he added.

“The ANC applauds the good work done by police who have been investigating Msibi’s murder. We hope the investigation will continue until we get to the bottom of Comrade Msibi’s killing. We want to see all those who were involved in Msibi’s killing rot in jail.”

The Witness has learnt that Khanyile was a member of the Inkatha Freedom Party in Ulundi.

The IFP’s Joshua Mazibuko said that while the party was concerned that one of its members was implicated in a murder, it did not mean that the party condoned violence. He added Khanyile was innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

His comments followed a call by the ANC for the party to declare its stance on the arrest.
