Msunduzi apologises for error

2011-08-18 00:00

A LOCAL businessman has voiced his unhappiness at the decision by Msunduzi Municipality to publish his name amongst defaulters who owe the council money, which he says has caused him great embarrassment.

The Witness on August 5 published the names of businesses and individuals who have outstanding rates bills with the municipality.

Peter Speirs Properties CC was number 213 on the list, and the owner is furious because, he says, he had complied with the municipality’s demand for payment on June 30.

“I made arrangements to pay the municipality and I was very much surprised to see my name in The Witness as one of the defaulters,” said Speirs, who owns Manor Butchery and is a partner in several SuperSpars.

Msunduzi spokesperson Brian Zuma apologised, saying “it was an error on our [Msunduzi’s] part.”
