Msunduzi finances turn for the better

2010-03-05 00:00

THE financial situation at the Msunduzi Municipality has taken a positive turn since the appointment of the provincial task team.

As of March 1, the municipality’s bank balance stands at R65 878 665,38.

This was stated by task team member Naren Mahesh during a reading of the second task team report at yesterday’s executive committee meeting.

This figure is a vast improvement from the net cash amount of R1,7 million reported to have been available on June 30 last year.

When DA councillor Rodger Ashe asked whether the task team has received the co-operation of officials in their second week, Mahesh said they have.

Msunduzi Mayor Zanele Hlatshwayo said she could also confirm that officials have co-operated with the task team, unlike last week, as she had sat in on one of their meetings this week.

Acting municipal manager Kevin Perumal said senior managers have met the team on more than one occasion this week, and more meetings are scheduled to take place.
