Msunduzi forum petition

2010-10-15 00:00

THERE is to be a city-wide drive to collect signatures for a petition calling on the municipality to act with fairness and more urgency on a number of concerns.

The Msunduzi Rates Forum (MRF) will be launching the petition at the Hayfields Mall — FNB Entrance — tomorrow from 9 am. The MRF is calling on all aggrieved residents to sign the petition, which also calls for more accountability in the form of written updates on the progress being made.

Concerns listed in the petition include that all officials and councillors implicated in wrongdoings at Msunduzi Municipality must be acted against; that unsatisfactory service delivery in all spheres under municipal control be addressed; that an acceptable “Indigent Policy” be implemented in keeping with the Municipal Rates Property Act and national government’s pro-poor policies; and that the Msunduzi Municipality immediately stop its policy of terminating electricity and water supplies to schools.

The MRF said it will seek legal opinion and an order to approve keeping deposits of rates payable to the Msunduzi Municipality into a court-approved trust fund should the issues raised in their petition not be attended to within stipulated time frames.
