Msunduzi joins in celebrating French presence in KwaZulu-Natal

ALLIANCE Française and Msunduzi Pietermaritzburg Tourism Association will be celebrating the French presence in KwaZulu-Natal with a series of activities across the province this week.

Director of Msunduzi Pietermaritzburg Tourism Association, Dumisani Mhlongo said, “We are inviting the communities to join these cultural celebrations that are suitable for everybody so that they can learn more about the French-inspired tourism.”

His words were echoed by Glen Flangan, spokesperson for Alliance Française PMB, who said, “We are the excited about these celebrations, which will give you information and experience about the French lifestyle, music performances, food, culture and history.”

The programme of events is as follows:

• Today at 10.30 am: Guided visit to the Prince Imperial exhibition at the Voortrekker/Msunduzi Museum.

• Tomorrow at 12 noon: Traffords/Heritage House, Miller hosts a French fine dining experience and wine tasting.

• Wednesday at 1.10 pm: the Tatham Art Gallery, there will be a lunchtime music performance by the Wykeham Collegiate; and at 6 pm at Pizzology in Victoria Street there will be a French-Italian ambiance and eating experience.

• Thursday, May 29 at 10.30 am: Project Gateway commemorates the Freedom Route and celebrates the Zulu, English and French connection.

• Friday, May 30 at 6 pm: reception hosted by the Msunduzi Municipality for the ambassador of France, Elisabeth Barbier, at the Tatham Art Gallery.

• Saturday, May 31 at 9.30 am: service at St Mary’s Chapel, which will include a performance by Michael Lambert; at 2.45 pm at Noyi Bazi Clinic in Pomeroy, there will be a tea event with the St Augustinian Sisters; and at 6.30 pm there is the annual French soirée at the Chez Nous Bed and Breakfast in Dundee.

• Sunday, June 1: 10 km Prince Imperial Fun Run, which will end at Prince Imperial Monument; and the 19th annual commemorative ceremony for the 135th anniversary of the death of the Prince Imperial Louis Napoleon at 10.15 am at uQweqwe community.

All the above events are open to the public, except for the reception events.
