Msunduzi looking to lure investors

2014-12-05 00:00

WITH city affairs steadily improving, Msunduzi Municipality is set to hold an investment conference and business fair by March next year to showcase the city and attract business and investors.

A report by Dr Julie Dyer, acting manager for Investment Attraction, to the Executive Committee (Exco) noted that a very successful conference was held 15 years ago. As a result of that many businesses opened in the city. She said there was an attempt to hold one in 2003, but this did not happen. “… with the cleaning and revitalisation of the city … the timing is now appropriate to hold another investment conference for the municipality,” Dyer said.

Exco endorsed the idea and Mayor Chris Ndlela asked officials to prepare the policy on business incentives soon. “We must be able to show what we are able to offer potential investors as incentives for them to invest or open up businesses in the city,” Ndlela said.

Meanwhile, municipal manager Mxolisi Nkosi had more good news for Exco. He announced that the municpality’s investment portfolio had grown to R861 million in September and that there was about R500 million in reserves that the municipality could tap into on a rainy day.
