Msunduzi spends its whole grant at last

2013-07-01 00:00

MSUNDUZI Municipality celebrated a milestone last week as the municipal manager, Mxolisi Nkosi, announced during the full council sitting that council had spent 100% of its Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) funding.

This means that no money allocated to it in the 2012/13 financial year will revert back to the province and national government.

Nkosi told The Witness that in the past two financial years council had been unable to spend all of its MIG funding, spending only 35% in 2010/11 and 96% last year.

He attributed this year’s total spend to better control measures in procurement planning. “We have drastically improved our procurement planning; however, this coming financial year we are aiming to achieve a 100% on all the grant funding that the municipality receives,” he added.

Councillor Mike Tarr, who chairs the municipal public accounts committee, said council had planned its finances to ensure all monies were well spent to improve service delivery.
