Msunduzi strikes: DA to ask questions

2012-04-23 00:00

THE Democratic Alliance will submit parliamentary questions to Co-operative Governance MEC Nomusa Dube, following the recent spate of wildcat strikes at Msunduzi Municipality.

DA provincial leader Sizwe Mchunu said he met the striking workers on Friday and was told that their protest was about a loss of confidence in recently appointed municipal manager Mxolisi Nkosi.

He said they claimed that their concerns were not being addressed and alleged that mismanagement within the municipality was going unchecked.

Mchunu said that the Msunduzi Municipality could not afford to go backwards. “The DA is committed to ensuring that these workers’ grievances are investigated and will submit questions to the MEC in a bid to gain further clarity,” he said.

“Should striking workers’ claims prove founded, the MEC must immediately intervene to avoid any further disruption within the municipality.”

Nkosi said workers had to use proper channels, and that he could not address the workers as he would be legitimising an illegal strike.
