Msunduzi: wet weather causes power outages

2012-10-25 00:00

POWER outages across Pietermaritzburg have been blamed on the wet weather of the past few days.

The Msunduzi Municipality said yesterday that it was working hard to restore affected areas, some of which have been without power since Monday morning.

Affected areas include parts of the CBD, Oak Park, Northdale, Copesville, Bisley, Boughton, Alexandra Extension and Lincoln Meade.

Caroline Kay of Oak Park said her power went off at around 2 am yesterday morning and they did not have electricity by late yesterday.

Alexandra Extension resident Liz Britz said she returned home from work yesterday to find she had no electricity.

Msunduzi Municipality spokesperson Brian Zuma blamed the outages on the inclement weather, which he said had affected electricity infrastructure. He said staff were working hard to restore power.

Zuma said the municipality is looking at replacing its aging electricity infrastructure.

“We have completed plans to procure transformers and we are also busy fixing the Hilton lines so that we can arrest this problem for good,” he said.
