‘Mtholephi Mthimkhulu’s death a huge loss’

TRIBUTES continued to be received yesterday after the death of former ANC provincial spokesperson, Agriculture MEC and deputy speaker in the legislature Mtholephi Mthimkhulu on Saturday.

ANC provincial Secretary Sihle Zikalala said Mthimkhulu had died after a long illness.

“As the ANC, we have always been hopeful Comrade Mthimkhulu would recover and rejoin us in the work of the organisation … Comrade Mthimkhulu had always displayed great dedication, and did his work with diligence and professionalism,” he said.

Mthimkhulu also worked as a teacher before he joined the SABC, where he served in various positions, including as a news editor for Ukhozi FM.

The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal said yesterday it was saddened by the veteran politician’s death, and expressed condolences to Mthimkhulu’s family, friends, colleagues and the ANC.

National Freedom Party secretary-general Professor Nhlanhla Khubisa said Mthimkhulu’s death represented “a huge loss”. “I am utterly shocked and at a loss of words as I worked well with him when I was a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, and at the time he was just an ordinary member of the Legislature. He was such a kind person who always made every member of the Legislature feel welcome and at ease,” Khubisa said.
