Mtubatuba: NFP yet to take up post

2011-12-01 00:00

THE National Freedom Party (NFP) is yet to officially take up its deputy mayor position at Mtub atuba Municipality, although the municipality returned to NFP-ANC control this week.

NFP leader Zanele Magwaza-Msibi yesterday confirmed that the party is yet to occupy its position in the municipality after councillors passed a vote of no confidence against an Inkatha Freedom Party mayor.

Mtubatuba is one of the 19 hung municipality that the ANC and NFP agreed to co-govern after no party could claim an outright majority during local government elections.Last month a dispute between ANC and the NFP led to NFP councillors colluding with the IFP to pass a vote of no confidence against the ANC speaker and mayor.

Magwaza-Msibi confirmed that the two were voted back to their positions on Monday. A party source said NFP councillors were threatened with expulsion if they lost the council.
