Mtwalume man fights off three robbers

2012-08-29 00:00

A 27-YEAR-OLD man from Mtwalume stabbed his attacker with the assailant’s own weapon after three intruders broke into his home on Saturday.

Police say the victim put up quite a fight and managed to arrest the knife-wielding assailant.

The other two suspects escaped but were arrested by Port Shepstone Tactical Response Team in Mfazazana a while later.

Njabulo Ngwane (22), Vusunuzi Mnguni (20) and Wonder Mqadi (20) appeared in Hibberdene Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The case was postponed to next week for a bail application.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the homeowner was asleep in his room when he heard a noise.

“He quickly locked the bedroom door and phoned his father who was at other premises. However, the intruders kicked open the door and attacked him,” said Wiid.

They demanded money but the complainant fought back and managed to overpower one of his assailants.

“The intruder was stabbed with his own knife.

“Hibberdene police responded and arrested the suspect,” Wiid added.
