Much club rugby action in PMB

2008-05-07 00:00

THERE is a plethora of KZN club rugby fixtures in the capital city today and tomorrow and after the holiday it will be interesting to see which club teams are less rusty than the others.

Tonight at 8 pm sees bottom-of-the-log Maritzburg Varsity take on a resurgent Durban Collegians in a Premier Division clash at the Peter Booysen Sports Park off Golf Road.

Across Scottsville at Woodburn Stadium, a First Division South fixture is on between Collegians and Waratahs at 8 pm.

Although both sides have struggled of late, this local derby is always entertaining if only for the passion it generates among the opposing players and their respective supporters.

Also at Woodburn, Midlands meet Durban Collegians in an U20A match on the second field at 8 pm. The respective reserve and B, C and D teams from the Pietermaritzburg clubs are also in action at various times on the UKZN campus (Peter Booysen Park) or at Woodburn.

Tomorrow sees three Premier Division and two U20A matches in Durban, while Kokstad and Hillcrest are the venues for First Division South encounters.

And an interesting deviation from the norm sees the Winterton-based Drakensberg club facing Durban Varsity in another First Division South match-up at 8.30 pm on Woodburn’s stadium field.
