CLARENCE Bell, the 88-year-old man who was mugged and robbed of R1 600 in Port Shepstone last week while walking home from the municipal offices in Connor Street, has had the burden of his loss eased somewhat.

Andrew Long, dealer principal at Kia Motors in Port Shepstone, and his staff decided to donate R1 000 to Bell after they read about Bell’s setback in The Witness last week.

“As a company we just felt really bad when we read the article and we decided that we would like to help,” said Long.

“It is Christmas time and people shouldn’t be without water and lights.”

Bell’s wife, Rita, said, “We appreciate it so much.

“Now at least we will have something to put on the table at Christmas time.”

Bell was robbed while returning from the Hibiscus Coast Municipality offices, afrter he was told that he would have to visit the Ugu district municipality at Oslo beach to settle his outstanding water bill.
