Muller, Murray back for Griquas challenge

SPRINGBOKS Johann Muller and Waylon Murray are back in the Sharks starting line-up for tomorrow’s top-of-the-log Currie Cup clash against Griquas and their return could not have been better timed.

Muller has recovered from his broken arm and will lock the scrum in place of Albert van den Berg, while powerful centre Murray, who has been eased back into action after an extended injury break, will take over from Riaan Swanepoel in the midfield.

Swanepoel, who has played consistently well — and bravely — in both the Currie Cup and Super 14, is now out with an injury.

There are five changes to the team which started against the Lions last weekend.

Three Springboks, Odwa Ndungani, Ryan Kankowski and Jannie du Plessis, have rejoined the seven other Sharks in the Tri-Nations squad.

Head coach John Plumtree said that Argentinian flyhalf Juan Hernandez (bruised ankle) is still battling to kick and he has been given another week to recover.

In the meantime, scrumhalf Rory Kockott, also returning from injury, is bracketed with Ross Cronje on the bench.

Plumtree said last night night that props Deon Carstens and Patric Cilliers are also less than fully fit and they will share duties on the loosehead.

Plumtree will start with Sharks U21 prop Wiehan Herbst at tighthead as he looks for a more solid scrummaging performance than was evident against the Lions.

“I was most impressed with young Herbst against the Leopards and it will be interesting to see if [he] can step up in a big game against Griquas.”

Chris Jordaan takes over from Ndungane on the wing and Keegan Daniel returns at number eight for Kankowski.

With the Sharks U21 side having a weekend bye, Plumtree has promoted former SA Schools fullback Patrick Lambie to the bench.

Griquas have received a double front-row boost with loosehead prop Albertus Buckle and hooker Ryno Barnes returning to the starting line-up after missing the Blue Buls game.

The only other change to the starting line-up is at lock where Cecil Kemp replaces Nolan Clarke.
