Murder: Assaulted man dies in his sleep

2008-09-28 00:00

A MAN was severely assaulted and later died in a Pietermaritzburg informal settlement on Saturday night. This has led to another man being arrested for the murder.

Simon Milton Mchunu (54) is believed to have died in the early hours of the morning while he was asleep.

Police spokeswoman Inspector Joey Jeevan said Mchunu’s girlfriend heard a commotion outside her shack at about 8 pm. A few minutes later, she opened the door for Mchunu, who stumbled and fell. After noticing that he had head injuries she helped him to bed.

She later tried to wake him up, but found that he had died, and she called the police. The motive for the murder is still unknown.
