2013-04-25 00:00

POLICE are yet to make an arrest following the brutal murder of an Umhlanga Rocks woman.

Shirley Soffiantini (63) was a spinster who lived alone with her cat. She was found naked with her mouth gagged and her hands and feet tied.

It was not clear when she died, but neighbours believe she might have been killed in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said a port-mortem would be conducted to establish the cause of death and if she had been raped.

A case of murder, house robbery and theft was opened at Durban North police station.

Soffiantini’s name was known to The Witness on Tuesday, but it could not be published as police had not located her family.
