Murder accused’s condition ‘not that serious’

2014-08-27 00:00

MURDER accused Brian Treasurer was admitted to hospital this week suffering from chest pains but his condition is apparently “not that serious”.

This was said yesterday by state advocate Sandesh Sankar who asked high court Judge Fikile Mokgohloa to adjourn the trial again until today.

Sankar said he was informed that Treasurer had to undergo blood tests yesterday, but that there was a chance he could be discharged either yesterday or today.

Treasurer was due to stand trial from Monday this week along with Mfaniseni Nxumalo for the murder of Pietermaritzburg medical doctor Bhavish Sewram.

Sewram was shot dead as he drove away from his surgery on May 13 last year.

The prosecution alleges the murder was planned and paid for by local businessman, Rajivee Soni, who will stand trial separately in March next year.

Soni allegedly suspected his wife, Kerusha, of having an affair with Sewram, as a result of which he allegedly hired Treasurer, Nxumalo and Sabelo Dlamini to assassinate the doctor.

Dlamini, who admitted he was the person who shot the doctor, is already serving a 25-year jail sentence.
