Murder: appeal for help

2011-11-02 00:00

THE police are appealing to members of the public who might have information regarding the murder of Nhlanhla Gerald Khanyile (61) at Ekupholeni Section, Swayimane area in Wartburg, to come forward.

Khanyile was killed by a man who had lured him from his home by pretending he was experiencing car troubles and needing assistance.

The police say their investigations has established that at about 7 pm on Saturday, Khanyile and his family were at their home when they were approached by an unknown man who required assistance with his motor vehicle which had broken down on the main road, about a kilometre away from their house.

Khanyile and his 21-year-old son then agreed to assist and proceeded to the vehicle. On arrival Khanyile noticed that the man’s vehicle, a VW Golf, was idling and that nothing appeared to be wrong with the vehicle.

It is alleged that the man then took a firearm from his vehicle and fired several shots at Khanyile, seriously wounding him.

The suspect thereafter fled from the scene in his vehicle.

Khanyile’s son, who was unharmed, immediately contacted his family and the police.

Khanyile was taken in a private vehicle to Northdale hospital where he died.

Those who might have information that might assist with the investigation can contact Detective Warrant Officer Nicholas Ndlela at 033 503 1369 or 082 459 7352.
