Muzikawufunwa Nxele (55) was shot dead and two people, including a counsellor to the headman, were wounded in the shooting incident on Saturday.

The Nxele family had been hosting a pre-wedding function when unknown people opened fire on them.

Mchunu said, “apparently some people had arrived at [the Nxele] home and claimed they had not been provided with food yet. However, immediately after the gunshot sounds were heard attackers also stole the gun belonging to the counsellor for the headman.”

The MEC had intervened in similar conflicts in the area and he had hoped that the area had heeded the message for a peaceful co-existence.

He said community members owed it to themselves to ensure that the area remained peaceful and free of senseless killings.

Mchunu also extended his heartfelt condolences to the Nxele family, members of the affected community, relatives and friends of the family.

The police’s Jay Naicker said a case of murder was opened for investigation at Sundumbili SAPS. “The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage and no arrests have been made.” publishes all comments posted on articles provided that they adhere to our Comments Policy.
