Murder: suspect caught

2012-10-05 00:00

A MAN suspected of murder was arrested in Weenen yesterday after being sought by police for over a year.

The suspect (26) was wanted for a double murder he allegedly committed in a Diepkloof hostel in Gauteng last year, said police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane.

“It is alleged that the suspect and his accomplices went to the hostel where they shot and killed an induna together with his wife. The suspect doused the deceased’s bodies with petrol and set them alight,” said Zwane.

He said the man fled to his home town where he was hiding. After a raid on his homestead at Mkholombe near Weenen, police found him in possession of a stolen .22 assault rifle.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Weenen Magistrate’s Court today where he will be charged with unlawful possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.
