Murder: trucker shot in Durban

2010-09-29 00:00

POLICE are investigating a murder of a tanker truck driver who was shot and killed by three armed men last night.

Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge told The Witness yesterday that the unidentified driver had parked his truck at Jacobs Road in Durban and went to buy a six-pack of beers from a bottle store across the road.

On his way back he was held up at gunpoint by three armed suspects.

“He tried to run for his life, but he was shot,” Mdunge said.

He said the driver sustained multiple gunshot wounds, four in the chest and one on the left arm.

He was confirmed dead at the scene.

A charge of murder was opened and police are investigating the case.

No arrests have been made.

Mdunge said the suspects fled in a vehicle that was standing close to the scene of crime.

Police believed that there was a fourth person in the vehicles, he added.
