Murdered boy would be 7 today

2009-03-23 00:00

The six-year-old boy beaten to death in his Northdale home over a week ago would have celebrated his seventh birthday today.

Raelin Devnarain, a grade 1 pupil at Deccan Road Primary, was bludgeoned to death with a hammer while his mother Pradantha Devnarain survived after being shot in the head and stabbed several times.

Raelin's uncle, Nirdesh Bhikshu, says he is still unsure of how they are going to commemorate the day.

"We still haven't thought of it as a family, but we'll probably have a quiet prayer session at home," he said.

Bhikshu said Raelin's school has informed him that several pupils have been distraught since the incident occurred.

"There have some reports of distressed kids at the school, but the principal says they are trying to deal with it as best as they possibly can."

He said Devnarain is still in a critical condition, but they are hopeful she will recover as there have been slight improvements.
