A MAN found murdered outside an uMlazi high school yesterday was necklaced, say police.

Residents of K-Section made the horrific discovery just after 4 am.

The victim was later identified as 29-year-old Thabiso Maphala.

Bhekithemba Community Police Forum chairman Dumisani Hlengwa said while the incident was shocking, the community was fed up with crime and may have taken the law into their own hands.

“The people have been complaining about the use of woonga and that they can’t tolerate crime any more,” he said.

People were generally apathetic about reporting crime because of the police’s tardy response, said IFP eThekwini spokesperson Mdu Nkosi, who condemned the murder.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said the motive for the killing was unknown and a murder case had been opened.
