Murdered nurse: reward offered

2011-09-09 00:00

A REWARD of R20 000 has been offered to any person who has information that might lead to the arrest and conviction of the man who mercilessly murdered nursing sister Maalthie “Bubbles” Mownchan (64) on Tuesday.

Mownchan, who was killed at her home in Samanaville, Orient Heights, was cremated yesterday.

Her only daughter, Sonalya, told The Witness that the funeral went well.

“I’ll remember her smile, laughter and everything about her. How she used to do her make-up.

“She was very funny and an angel,” she said.

Sonalya heard her mother screaming for her life while she hid in a locked bathroom.

She said, “I haven’t slept since the incident happened.”

The 20-year-old is doing her second year in media, advertising and journalism at the University of South Africa.

She told The Witness that she will seek trauma counselling after the ritual prayers taking place until Saturday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said detectives at Mountain Rise police station are making an urgent appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of the wanted man, known as Siphesihle.

“The suspect is about 30 years old, medium built and has short black hair. He speaks English and works as a temporary gardener,” Jeevan added.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lieutenant Sizwe Makhathini of Mountain Rise detective services at 033 387 9635 or 082 925 2582 or Captain Pipes Haffajee at 079 500 0264.

Any witness or informant who wishes to remain anonymous should call Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
