Music: City backing boosts Concert in the Park

2008-06-05 00:00

Pictured planning for the upcoming Concert in the Park on Sunday, June 22, are (left to right) Bryce Dambuza (Witness marketing), Brian Zuma (city marketing manager), Chris Hodgkins (concert producer and organiser) and Brian Tarr (Botanical Gardens curator).

This is the fourth year of Pietermaritzburg’s best musical event and it co-incides with the 100-year celebration of the plane tree avenue, a city landmark.

The concert audience will enter through what will be the new entrance to the Botanical Gardens and walk down the magnificent avenue of plane trees. This is the first year the city has been involved in the Concert in the Park as a sponsor of the event.

This year’s concert promises to be the biggest and best, featuring the KZN Philharmonic together with a hot line-up of soloists as well as the Pietermaritzburg Caledonian Pipe Band and the cast of the recently staged 70s Show.

Bookings are brisk and those wishing to purchase tickets can contact Pearl at Parklane Super Spar on 033 342 3487. Ticket prices are R80 (adults), R70 (pensioners) and R35 (children under 16). Picnic hampers are also available.
