Must-win game for Dolphins against Warriors

2008-12-18 00:00

The 45-over match starts at Kingsmead at 4.15 pm.

On Tuesday in Kimberley, Morne van Wyk steered the Free State Eagles to a six-wicket win over the Dolphins, while the Warriors pipped the same side by four runs, away from home, last time out.

The Dolphins prop up the table having five points from five outings. In fifth place are the Lions, who have played two more matches but have a better run rate. The Warriors are fourth with nine points from five games. The Durban-based side need to pass the Highveld Lions and edge in front of the Warriors, something they can achieve today. The fourth spot is their aim at minimum, as it at least gives them an away slot in the semi-finals next month.

For similar reasons, though, it’s an equally vital match for the Warriors.

The Eagles are out of sight of the Dolphins with 25 points from eight outings, with the Northern Titans second on 21 from six and the Western Cape Cobras third on 15 points from five clashes.

The Dolphins will miss David Miller, who injured his back in the nets while warming up for the Cobras match in Cape Town, and Alfonso Thomas, who damaged his shoulder in the Kimberley match against the Eagles. Thomas will also miss Sunday’s clash. Morne van Vuuren takes his place, while Grant Rowley has been omitted.

Other than Justin Kreusch (broken toe), the selectors named an unchanged Warriors squad from the Eagles outing. Colin Ingram is his replacement.

On Sunday, the Dolphins take on the Highveld Lions from 10 am at the Maritzburg Oval.

The Sunday match sees tickets on sale at the ground at R20 for adults and R10 for children and pensioners. Alcohol may not be brought into the ground as it will be sold at the venue, while glass bottles are also not allowed.

The last Dolphins match this year sees them meet the Western Cape Cobras at Kingsmead on Boxing Day from 4.15 pm.
