Mystery of missing Oribi Village postboxes solved, Post Office confirms removal

2014-11-17 00:00

THE mystery of the disappearing postboxes at Oribi Village has been solved.

Pietermaritzburg residents using the Oribi Village postboxes have been struggling to find answers after their postboxes were removed two months ago.

The residents found it strange that the postboxes were removed without them being informed where they were moved to.

Intaba Ridge resident David Arnold, who has been collecting his mail at Oribi Village for many years, said he was unable to pay his bills because he was not getting his post after the postboxes were moved.

“Two months ago, my wife and I went to collect letters at the postbox but when we got there, all the post boxes were removed completely,” he said.

Arnold asked around, but nobody seemed to be any the wiser.

A resident from the area, who asked not to be named, said employees from the Post Office arrived two months ago and removed the postboxes. The South African Post Office confirmed that it removed the postboxes at Oribi Village.

SA Post Office spokesperson Johan Kruger said it was moved to a safer location after the facility was vandalised on a number of occasions. “Signs were placed on the postboxes indicating the removal of the postboxes and contact details were supplied where customers could supply the address where they prefer to have their mail delivered,” he said.

“Residents can contact the branch manager at Scottsville Post Office to obtain a postbox or to provide an alternative address where they prefer to have their mail delivered.”
