N3 closure: Traffic expected to be busy

2010-08-21 00:00

TRAFFIC in Pietermaritzburg will be busy today as the N3 will be closed until late tonight for the partial demolition of the Chota Motala Bridge. The demolition is part of the project to upgrade the N3.

According to Bradley Naidoo, the site manager of the Chota Motala interchange and N3 upgrade, the closure will start at 4 am and last until 10 pm.

He said the routes where the traffic would be detoured have been clearly marked.

The N3 southbound carriageway will be closed to traffic at Cedara. Light motor vehicles will be detoured along the R103 through Hilton and Pietermaritzburg. Trucks will be stacked and escorted by RTI officers through the closure area at intervals.

The northbound carriageway will be closed at New England Road. The detour will rejoin the N3 at Chatterton Road, while trucks will be stacked and released at intervals.

The Chota Motala Interchange will be closed and traffic detoured via Ohrtmann Road, Manning Avenue and Willowton Road.
