N3: lanes to be split

2011-05-31 00:00

FROM tomorrow until November traffic heading northbound on the N3 will be split into two lanes about 100 metres before the Sanctuary Road off- ramp (or Midlands Mall off-ramp) to accommodate highway construction.

Bradley Naidoo, site manager for the N3 Chota Motala interchange project, said traffic on the slow lane heading towards Johannesburg will be diverted on to the newly constructed fast lane on the northbound carriageway median.

Heavy duty vehicles will be restricted to this lane, which has a width restriction of 3,5 metres between a temporary concrete barrier on the left and the new median barrier wall. Light vehicles heading north will be diverted on to the new fast lane on the southbound carriageway.
