2008-12-21 00:00

A man died after his car ploughed off the N3 near the Mariannhill toll plaza. The driver of a BMW apparently lost control of the vehicle and it rolled about 500 metres, breaking up as it went down a bank.

According to the paramedics at the scene, the male driver was thrown out on impact.

Two other vehicles were involved in the accident, but the two occupants sustained only minor injuries and were not transported to hospital.

In another incident, a pedestrian was killed after being knocked down by a car on the N3 freeway.

There was no respite for drunk drivers in KZN after roadblocks netted 104 people driving under the influence. Of these, 62 were arrested in Pietermaritzburg.
