N3 windfall: Potatoes galore as truck crashes

2008-07-27 00:00

A truck carrying potatoes lost its load near the Peter Brown Drive off-ramp on the N3 highway on Saturday morning, causing a major traffic jam from Hilton. It was a free-for-all as people scrambled for their share of the potatoes with containers of all sorts, including bakkies.

Transport spokeswoman Zinhle Mngomezulu said the accident caused a multiple car pile-up in the early hours involving another truck, three minibuses and two bakkies. Two passengers in a minibus were seriously injured. The accident was apparently caused when the potato truck’s brakes failed.
