NFP: thousands turn up for volunteer programme launch near Howick

2013-07-29 00:00

AMBITIOUS plans by the National Freedom Party (NFP) to rule KwaZulu-Natal after next year’s general elections received a minor boost yesterday, when thousands of people, said to be the party’s volunteers, turned up at Mafakatini near Howick, where the party was launching its volunteer programme in preparation for the elections.

The party had expected 10 000 volunteers, but party president Zanele kaMagaza-Msibi said there had been 15 000.

She said the party would contest next year’s general elections in all provinces and that the volunteer programme had been launched in the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga.

KaMagwaza-Msibi said they had about 270 000 volunteers across South Africa, with 45 000 from KwaZulu-Natal.

“These are the people who will be going out there to interact with communities and to pass the party’s message.”

She said over 1 000 new members had defected from other parties to the NFP.
