NO more wives for the president!

That was the long and short of a press statement issued by the Presidency yesterday, in which they moved quickly to deny a new love interest in Zuma’s life.

The denial came after media reported yesterday how a KwaZulu-Natal businesswoman, Nomthandazo “Nomthi” Mathaba-Mthembu, had visited Zuma’s homestead and tried to woo him with songs of courtship.

“The Presidency has noted media speculation about an alleged wedding that is on the cards for President Jacob Zuma, in today’s papers [January 6, 2013].

“There is no truth in the rumours that are in the Sunday papers today. The president is not planning to wed,” read a statement.

The Sunday Times reported that Mathaba-Mthembu had a convoy of 15 cars travel to Zuma’s home in Nkandla to deliver gifts during the annual dance ceremony on New Year’s Day.

Once there, her entourage, bearing gifts, started chanting customary songs of courtship, surprising local chiefs.

Zuma was busy with the dance ceremony at the time. There was no indication that he was even aware of the romantic overtures.

According to the paper, Mathaba-Mthembu refused to talk about the nature of her relationship with the president, saying she would speak to the media “at an appropriate time”.

Zuma already has four wives, Nompumelelo MaNtuli Zuma, Thobeka Madiba, Sizakele MaKhumalo Zuma and Bongi Ngema-Zulu, whom he married in April last year.
