Namibia beat KZN Coastal by innings and 94 runs

KZN Coastal crashed to an innings and 94-run defeat against Namibia inside two days in the CSA Three-Day Competition match in Windhoek yesterday.

After being dismissed for a paltry 80 in their first innings on Thursday, Coastal were blasted out for a scarcely believable 78 yesterday, this in reply to Namibia’s 252.

All four of Namibia’s bowlers took two wickets or more in Coastal’s second innings, while captain Chad Bowes (21) was the only Natalian to reach double figures.

At the Maritzburg Oval, KZN Inland opening bowler Ruhan Pretorius ended with a career-best eight for 31 as North West were dismissed for 105 in their first innings, this after they had sent Inland in to bat on Thursday morning and got the home side out for 217.

In Inland’s second knock, opening batsman Nick Hendrie anchored the innings as the home side declared on 233 for nine. Hendrie had partnerships of 40 with Imraan Khan, 48 with Brad Moses and 50 with Kyle Nipper. He went on to make 86 in five hours of valuable batsmanship and hit nine fours off the 171 deliveries he faced.

North West were on 55 for two at close of play and need 291 to win today with eight wickets still in hand.

The respective 50-over matches between the same teams take place in Windhoek and Pietermaritzburg tomorrow.
