Nashua brawl trio settle differences after written apology

2015-02-24 00:00

THE three main players involved in a brawl at Nashua’s premises last year have put their differences aside after a five-month legal battle.

Leslie Gounden from Midlands Communications and Sanjeev Maharaj from Nashua have both decided to drop the common assault charges against each other after a fist fight at Nashua’s premises in Hoosen Haffajee Street in September last year.

Nashua employee Dhanprakash Hariparsad, who drew a firearm and allegedly fired shots after a brawling crowd grew to more than 20 people, recently issued a letter of apology to Gounden.

Although the common assault charges between Maharaj and Gounden were dropped, Gounden and his wife Claudette charged Hariparsad for discharging his firearm in public.

The couple has now announced that because of the written letter of apology they received, they have dropped those charges. “We both hereby accept the written apology made by the Nashua staff member for firing at us.”

Gounden and Maharaj got into a fight at the parking lot of the premises last year over a personal issue that escalated into a fist-flying frenzy when colleagues from both companies joined in.

At that stage, Hariparsad admitted producing a firearm and allegedly fired three shots in the direction of the brawling crowd.

Nashua’s managing director Sudashan Naidoo yesterday reiterated his previous comment that the company has nothing to do with the altercation as it was a personal issue between a staff member and an external party.
