National award for Northdale teacher

A NORTHDALE teacher’s 32 years of hard work was recently recognised when she was presented with the Life Time Achievement award at the National Teaching Awards (NTA) ceremony at the Exhibition Centre in Durban.

Veena Ramdeen (54), who teaches at Kharina Secondary School in Northdale, said that getting an award was not easy, and that it was a long road filled with challenges.

She said the selection process of the NTA has taken her through various stages, from the district selection up to the provincial stage.

“Throughout my teaching career I have ensured that I remain a scholar, researcher and a lifelong learner. I also have a wide variety of teaching experience in mainstream education,” she said.

Ramdeen said that in addition to her hard work as a teacher, she also empowers individuals who wish to enter the teaching profession. “I have always promoted the vision of our school and the department of education in a professional and dignified manner,” she said.

Ramdeen said she has also been an adjunct lecturer in consumer studies and has also worked with visually impaired pupils at Arthur Blaxall School.

Her principal, Yubentheran Moodley, said Ramdeen’s achievement is well deserved. “The award that she received is a tribute to her remarkable dedication and service to her teaching profession and her excellence in community service. We are all very proud of her,” he said.

The NTA honours dedicated, creative and effective teachers and schools for their hard work.
