Net cast wide for KZN school rugby trials

2010-05-05 00:00

THE 2010 KZN schools rugby trials started in earnest on Monday afternoon, with participants from Pietermaritzburg schools playing in a series of matches at Maritzburg College. U18 and U16 sides were chosen.

The provincial trials continue over the next two weeks with Midlands, KZN North, Durban South, Durban North and Highways sides being selected.

The selectors will add other players who have caught their eye at the zonal trials.

At U18 level, there will be four extra sides selected, and at U16 level a further two sides. This ensures that boys who are unavailable on the day of the trials can still be included.

The final trials at Woodburn will be held on May 18.

The Pietermaritzburg U18 and U16 teams are dominated by Maritzburg College with 11 players in each.

St Charles has four players in the U18 and three in the U16, with Voortrekker represented by just a single player at U16 level.
