New TV programme for teachers

2014-07-25 00:00

PUPILS and teachers in KwaZulu-Natal can look forward to a teacher development television programme, launched in Durban yesterday.

The television programme is a partnership between Sadtu, Mindset, Telkom, Unkunzi, Hauwei, HP, Vortex, Cyberschool Technology and 247 Technologies.

It is to be shown on Mindset Learn Educational Channel on DSTV and OpenView. It already has 10 participating schools, and 24 centres are envisaged to be equipped with viewing technology throughout the province.

The channel will carry Grade 12 revision lessons, after school and during exams.

Sadtu provincial secretary Mbuyiseni Mathonsi said the union took up the initiative as its responsibility towards deepening democracy and restructuring the education system.

“The best teachers and subject specialists in the province will be lined up to provide teacher development from the studio and address challenging topics for teachers who will be watching from their local centres,” Mathonsi said.

Sadtu general-secretary Mugwena Maluleke said the television programme would enable teachers to share best practices in teaching various topics.

Education Department’s head Nkosinathi Sishi congratulated Sadtu for the initiative, saying it mitigated against inadequate resources and poor education interventions.
