2013-12-30 00:00

The Witness asked prominent Pietermaritzburg people what their New Year’s resolutions are.

uMgungundlovu District Municipality Mayor Yusuf Bhamjee wishes to inspire and be inspired in 2014.

“I would like to continue with my convictions to my personal non-smoking campaign and try to endure good governance on the municipal front.

“Furthermore, I would like to inspire and be inspired by those who I am in contact with to improve the general quality of life for all people and thereby keeping the spirit of Madiba alive.”

Acclaimed concert pianist Christopher Duigan said, “I joined the gym. I’ve been three times already, so I’m already a week ahead! In 2014 I want to have a balanced lifestyle, to help manage the stress of mental and physical work.”

Melanie Veness, CEO of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business, said, “I will focus on achieving more balance in my life. I will enjoy the tranquility of silence more, and more of the things that thrill my soul. I will laugh more. I will aim for everything in moderation, even moderation itself.”

Msunduzi Mayor Chris Ndela would like to contribute to the government’s five priorities.

“My personal 2014 resolutions are to work with communities, to address local government and the communities as encapsulated in President Jacob Zuma’s message in the 2011 local government manifesto. May we all have a prosperous and peaceful 2014.”
