New fun trail at midlands race

2008-03-22 00:00

Autumn and the most scenic of runs — that is the attraction of the Midlands Meander Marathon to take place on April 6 from Nottingham Road.

While it may be a Comrades qualifier, this marathon (starting at 6 am) is not only about crossing the finishing line, it is the journey which draws the crowds.

The Capitol Caterers/Midlands Meander Marathon, organised by the Howick Athletic Club and set along the quiet country roads of the Midlands, has become a must-do event for serious and not so serious runners alike. This year a new fun Trail Run/Walk has been introduced to cater for the entire family.

Chairman John Symons said some 1 000 runners were expected.

“We will provide a light meal and drink and sweat shirt for every competitor.”

There will be nine refreshment stations to keep you going and cash prizes for winners and lucky draws to entice you to reach the finish.

Afterwards, stay off the busy roads, explore country lanes and uncover hidden delights.

•Post entries to Howick Athletic Club PO Box 723 Howick 3290 before March 28.

•Enter online, visit before 2 April.

•Entry forms can be downloaded from or

•Venue: Clifton School on the Kamberg Road in Nottingham Road.
