New manager ‘misled’ Abaqulusi

2013-09-19 00:00

CO-OPERATIVE Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube approached the Pietermaritzburg high court yesterday to nullify the appointment of the new municipal manager of Abaqulusi municipality.

The MEC’s spokesperson, Lennox Mabaso, said it is alleged the appointment of Dr Vusumuzi Mthembu was unlawful because he was appointed at an illegal meeting and he is alleged to have falsified his curriculum vitae.

“The MEC has proved that the municipal manager had misled the council in terms of the information he provided in his curriculum vitae in that he claimed, among other things, that he had lectured at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, which upon verification by the municipality was found to have been a false claim.

“Further, the fact that the deputy mayor had hastily convened and chaired the meeting that purportedly appointed the new municipal manager, while the mayor was not present and had not been consulted, also renders the entire process unprocedural,” said Mabaso.

He said judgment was reserved in the case.
