New plan to fix PMB roads

2014-11-28 00:00

LONG-STANDING complaints of poor roads in Pietermaritzburg are to be sorted out with Msunduzi’s surface roads preventative maintenance programme.

Ashburton councillor Sandy Lyne was pleased to learn that potholed roads in her ward have been included in the programme.

Municipal manager Mxolisi Nkosi said that R25 million a year had been set aside for road maintenance and this amount will be escalated by 10% annually. This was good news for councillors as road maintenance suffered in the past when the municipality went under administration. The new plan includes routine maintenance, periodic maintenance and special maintenance when problems arise.

Roads that will be repaired in this financial year include New Greytown Road, Kudu and Sandilands roads in Ashburton, as well as roads in the Mkondeni industrial area, including C.B. Downes and Gladys Manzi roads.
