New power problems over weekend

2014-03-10 00:00

AFTER load shedding caught everyone unawares last week, some parts of Pietermaritzburg were again plunged into darkness on Saturday night and into yesterday when transformers blew at the Hesketh Primary Sub-station.

Areas in Scottsville, Hayfields and Lincoln Meade were affected after Hesketh and Woodburn primary sub-stations went offline at around midnight, said Msunduzi municipal spokesperson Madeleine Plaatjies.

“Upon investigation, it was found that Hesketh Primary Sub-station was the affected piece of the network and Woodburn was then energised to restore supply,” she said. This restored electricity to the Scottsville area at around 1.30 am yesterday morning.

Power was restored at the Hesketh sub-station by 4 pm. Plaatjies was unable to confirm the cause of the fault.
