News flash: Power back on by 7pm

2009-03-24 00:00

Good news is that power will be restored to affected areas of Pietermaritzburg today at 7pm.

Here is the statement from the Msunduzi Municipailty:

"On Monday, 23 March 2009, at about 10.26pm, a transformer at Pine Street Primary Substation faulted, cutting supply to the following areas: Boughton, Prestbury, Clarendon, Phyphini, Wembley, Montrose, Pine Street, Berg Street, parts of Victoria Road and parts of the CBD.

At about 2.30am, power supply was restored through alternative ring feeds to Pine Street, Berg Street and parts of Victoria Road and the CBD. The other areas were still without electricity as at midday today, and we expect to restore power to these areas by 7pm today.

The cause for the failure is being investigated.

The contractors started working at 7am this morning to recommission the old transformer that had been put out of service in preparation for maintenance, by reconnecting all the necessary cables and overhead conductors."
