Nguni Classic to be run next month

2010-08-18 00:00

NGUNI cattle, pride of the Zulu nation, and the rolling hills and indigenous forests of the Elandslaagte battlefields provide the backdrop for 2010’s newest mountain bike ride and trail run.

The Nguni Classic is to be staged on Blanerne Farm between Ladysmith and Newcastle, on the weekend of September 4 and 5.

The race comprises 42 km and 19 km mountainbike rides and five kilometre and 14 km trail runs, as well as a kiddies ride.

Apart from the thrill of running or biking through grazing herds of beautiful Nguni cattle, participants are sure of an adrenalin rush as they ride over a suspended bridge, through unexplored forests and maybe even catch sights of a herd of kudu or warthog.

Camping and ablution facilities on the farm as well as the many B&Bs in the area offer a variety of accommodation options.

The race is to be administered by ROAG, an organisation well known for efficiency and effective registration and timing. The race has the backing of Powerade, Build It and Giant and offers many prizes for the competitive participants. This is a newcomer to the MTB calendar not to be missed.
