Night league plays to a close after disrupted round-robin stages

THE Sunfoil Schools’ Night League plays to a close this week when the semi-finals are played today and tomorrow with the final being played on Thursday. This follows the disrupted round-robin stages.

Pool A saw two matches, St Charles and Westville and Maritzburg College and Westville, washed out.

Westville thus played just one match, which they lost against the Presidents XI.

Maritzburg College won the pool with wins against St Charles and the Presidents XI, the latter where the Duckworth-Lewis formula was used. The Presidents XI were runners-up in the pool after playing all three matches. They won two and lost against College.

Westville, with two matches halved and a loss against the Presidents XI, were third with St Charles bringing up the rear with two games lost and one halved.

Kearsney was the school most affected by rain as all three matches were cancelled, giving Kearsney 4,5 points in pool B. This was unfortunate as their school results have showed that they would have been competitive in the competition.

Glenwood, with two wins and a rained-off match, topped the pool with Michaelhouse and Kearsney both on 4,5 points. As Michaelhouse had won one match, they go through as the runners-up in the pool.

Hilton lost two matches, against Michaelhouse and Glenwood and had one rained off, thus being last in the pool.

Today the first semi-final will be between the winners of pool A, Maritzburg College and runners-up in pool B, Michaelhouse.

Tomorrow the winner of pool B, Glenwood, will play against runners-up in pool A, the Presidents XI.

On Thursday the winners of these two games then play in the final.

Final points

Pool A: Maritzburg College 7,5; Presidents XI 6; Westville 3; St Charles 1,5.

Pool B: Glenwood 7,5; Michaelhouse 4,5; Kearsney 4,5; Hilton 1,5.
